Nelly Furtado has reportedly become the latest notable name to trade in the publishing rights for their catalog for a mammoth payout.

Per Sky News, the singer-songwriter – whose hits include ‘Promiscuous,’ ‘Maneater,’ ‘Say It Right,’ and ‘I’m Like a Bird,’ is on the cusp of signing a seismic deal with Hipgnosis Song Management.
The Blackstone-backed firm has amassed a diverse portfolio of song and producer catalogs – ranging from Shakira to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers to Leonard Cohen. Now, according to the report, Canadian star Furtado is next up.
No financial information has been officially released. However, analysts posit that the price tag could be in the ballpark of $50 million.
It’s been five years since Furtado’s last album, indie offering ‘The Ride,’ and she largely maintains a quiet profile these days.
Yet, it’s little surprise that her catalog would come with a hefty price tag.
The singer’s commercial breakthrough album ‘Loose’ has sold a whopping 12 million copies since its 2006 release and birthed many a multi-Platinum smash that still resonates with the modern music mass. All of which she savvily has writing credits on.
So, while we’d readily welcome new material from the star, we simultaneously commend this flex.
